SUSTAINABILITY
The team at Otepää Organising Committee is committed to doing everything in its power to minimise the environmental impact of the event and to treating environmental protection as one of the core values of our events. Our goal is to decrease the environmental impact by monitoring key indicators and implementing improvement measures in the main impact areas. We have identified the relevant stakeholders and collaborate with them to achieve this goal.

Environmental impact assessment and reduction are an integral part of the IBU’s environmental programme. Following the IBU’s recommendations, we have strengthened environmental awareness within the organising team and improved the documentation and monitoring of environmental performance at our events. We have improved how we measure the event’s carbon footprint and monitor our waste management system, and we aim to be a leading example in environmental responsibility both nationally and internationally.

The Otepää Organising Committee strives to promote environmental awareness not just among its the members and stakeholders of the organisation, but also among spectators, partners, and the teams involved. Environmental considerations, such as choosing eco- friendly products and local services, and reducing emissions, are taken into account and integrated into agreements with partner companies.

To advance environmental sustainability and reinforce responsibility, we seek to carry out the following measures and encourage our partners to do the same:
● We promote environmental awareness and sustainable development principles across all our channels and communications.
● We integrate the consideration of environmental issues and impacts into our decision-making processes and activities.
●We comply with all applicable laws, regulations, environmental requirements, and the IBU’s recommendations.
● We require our partners and suppliers to take responsibility for environmental matters.
● We prioritise close collaboration with all stakeholders.

● We establish sustainable environmental goals and measure their performance.
● We focus on energy-efficient and sustainable solutions, such as the adoption of renewable energy sources. We track energy and water usage during our events.
● We minimise waste and reuse or recycle as much as possible, while ensuring that our partners also handle waste responsibly.
● We strive to digitalise competition documentation wherever possible and reduce printed materials to a minimum.
● We strive to minimise carbon dioxide emissions by maximising the use of hybrid and electric vehicles in event operations, optimising transport logistics, and encouraging and facilitating the use of public transport whenever possible.
