ABOUT SOUTH ESTONIA

South Estonia is known for its rolling hills, vast forests, picturesque lakes, striking sandstone cliffs and rich cultural heritage. In February, the region offers plenty of opportunities to enjoy winter, from skiing and snowboarding to peaceful walks through snow-covered landscapes.

Some of Estonia's best skiing destinations are found in South Estonia, from the downhill slopes of Kuutsemäe, Munakas and Kütiorg to the extensive cross-country skiing trails of Haanja, Mammaste and Vooremäe. Whether you're an experienced skier or trying winter sports for the first time, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the snow.

South Estonia is home to three distinctive heritage cultures: Võro, Seto and the Old Believers of Lake Peipus. Each has its own traditions, food and history. Among the region's most special experiences is the traditional Võro smoke sauna, recognised by UNESCO as part of intangible cultural heritage.

Beyond winter sports, visitors can explore small towns and villages, discover local restaurants, stay in cosy countryside accommodation and enjoy the region's strong smoke sauna culture. For those feeling adventurous, a dip in icy water is a popular way to complete the sauna experience.
